Frequently Asked Questions

We love questions! Please reach us at info@WindsorWindowTinting.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Because every property is unique and each client’s needs vary, we offer in-home consultations with no obligation. We understand the time, energy, and resources that go into creating your home or business, and our goal is to enhance and protect that investment.

During the consultation, we will discuss your specific objectives, discuss product samples, take measurements, and provide a detailed quote on the spot. If you choose to proceed, we can typically schedule installation within 2 weeks.

The same products can often be used interchangeably. That said, residential customers typically seek solutions that maximize natural light, reduce heat, and enhance privacy. Commercial clients generally prioritize glare reduction and heat control. With a selection of more than 50 products, we can help you choose the ideal solution to meet your specific needs.

Not in most circumstances. Window film can provide daytime privacy by reflecting ambient daylight—the more reflective the film, the greater the privacy. At night, this effect is reversed: if it is dark outside and lights are on indoors, the interior becomes more visible.

Achieving both daytime and nighttime privacy is possible with the right approach. First, a highly reflective film—such as LLumar R35 or DR05—is required. Second, the exterior light level must be at least twice as bright as the interior. This can be achieved by minimizing indoor lighting and maximizing outdoor illumination. For example, strategically placed landscape lighting that also illuminates the home can help maintain privacy after dark.

Yes, we do offer exterior film installation when necessary, however, it is typically used only in situations where interior access is not possible. Exterior films come with certain limitations. Because they are exposed to the elements, they have a shorter lifespan and generally carry a warranty of up to seven years, compared to the lifetime warranty available with interior-applied films.

Additionally, removal and replacement of exterior film can be labor-intensive and costly. Due to installation conditions, achieving a flawless finish is more challenging—airborne dust or small debris may occasionally become part of the application, although we take every measure to minimize this.

Whenever windows are accessible from the interior, we recommend interior-applied film as the superior option. It offers greater durability, a cleaner finish, and long-term value, making it the best choice for our customers whenever feasible.

Usually not. A bit of context helps explain why.

Decades ago, homeowners began applying automotive window films to residential windows to achieve similar comfort and performance benefits. Unfortunately, this often resulted in glass breakage and seal failure. The issue stemmed from using the wrong type of film for the application.

Automotive films are typically made from dyed polyester and are designed to absorb heat while remaining minimally reflective to avoid blinding other drivers. This works well for vehicle windows, which are usually single-pane tempered glass—designed  to withstand significant thermal stress and able to dissipate heat efficiently.

In contrast, most residential windows are dual-pane, annealed (non–heat-strengthened) glass, which does not tolerate thermal stress as well. When heat-absorbing automotive style films are applied to these windows, the additional heat can lead to glass breakage or seal failure. As a result, some window manufacturers chose to void warranties when any film products were installed.

Residential and commercial window films are specifically engineered for flat glass applications. They are reflective to varying degrees, designed to reject heat by reflecting it outward while transferring only a safe amount of heat to the glass. An added benefit of this reflectivity is increased daytime privacy.

Reputable window film manufacturers provide detailed guidelines indicating which films are suitable for specific glass types—whether single-, double-, or triple-pane, tempered or annealed, and with various Low-E coatings. We use specialized tools to assess your windows and use our experience and expertise to recommend a film that meets your needs while remaining safe for your glass.

For additional peace of mind, we also offer optional Vista Gold Warranty coverage. If your windows are still under the manufacturer’s warranty and that warranty is affected by the installation of window film, Vista Gold Warranty will match the original terms and conditions. This allows you to enjoy the benefits of window film on newer windows while maintaining full warranty protection.
